Challenges

To manage a network of over 500 critical communication devices, the client was using a Castle Rock SNMPc system. This comprised activities like keeping an eye on traffic, assessing bandwidth, determining the capacity and availability of ports, and monitoring the health of the device, including CPU and memory consumption. However, as their needs evolved, this solution became outdated and couldn’t meet their growing demands.

About the project

Phase 1: Migration and System Enhancement

The project initiated with a targeted focus on the communication network and device management. This phase included:

  • Castle Rock SNMPc Migration: The first step involved moving from Castle Rock SNMPc to SGRwin. This included analyzing databases (CSV), setting up CastleRock on virtual servers to get the existing system’s filters and configurations. SGRwin migrator tool enabled a semi-automatic process for seamless migration.
  • System Restructuring: Sites and devices were organized together, links to elements were enabled, new elements were added, duplicate entries were removed, and the inventory was tidied up.
  • Enhanced Accessibility: Swift access to elements was achieved through the restructured system. Moreover, permits and documentation were secured to ensure VPN access.

Phase 2: Device Integration and Customization:

The subsequent phase was dedicated to seamless device integration and customization, involving:

  • Device Integration: Employing SNMPwalk and private MIBs, devices and models were seamlessly incorporated into SGRwin. Special emphasis was given to the integration of specific vendors, such as CISCO and other vendors equipment.
  • Vendor-Specific Integration: critical communication devices were integrated, including the assimilation of advanced technologies and features.
  • Customization: SGRwin’s capabilities were customized to the client’s needs. Maps and dashboards were tailored to provide a personalized experience.
  • Historical Statistics Enhancement: Historical statistics were enriched by incorporating throughput in/out metrics.

Results

  • Successful and swift migration from the existing SNMPc system, preserving configurations and filters.
  • Seamless integration of CISCO and other vendors devices for enhanced functionality.
  • Personalized features meeting clients’ needs.

SGRwin licenses delivered

  • NMS FCAPS (Fault, Configuration, Accounting, Performance, Security) to provide comprehensive management.
  • AM+ (Asset Management). Multitenant + UME (Unmanaged elements) for advanced supervision.
  • PM+ (Performance Monitoring) offering an extensive historical statistics repository (10k signals).
  • Standard Vendor licenses tailored for specific vendor devices, ensuring seamless operations and swift replacement.

SGRwin has a semi-automatic process to migrate a SNMPc system to SGRwin in a few hours. Upgrade from SNMPc to SGRwin today!
